HOME INSPECTION

RADON INSPECTIONS
Radon is a natural gas caused by decaying
uranium. Radon testing is neede to measure the
pioccuries/liter( pCi/L). If levels are too
high, DEP (Dept. of Environmental Protection)
recommends mitigation be preformed to bring
levels down to a safe range. Radon gases have
been known to cause Lung Cancer due to prolonged
exposure. We use Radon Monitors that are State
of the Art-1027 models that are tamper proofed.
SEPTIC INSPECTIONS
A Septic Inspection consist of a "Stress Probe
and Dye Test" where effluent is introduced into
the Waste Treatment System according to PA
Septic Management Association Protocol.
WOOD DESTROYING INSECTS
This evaluation is done to find destructive
insects such as the Powder Post Beetle,
Carpenter Ants, and Termites. |

HOME INSPECTION

WATER INSPECTIONS - BACTERIAL
Samples are taken to labs for testing. If bacteria is present, a
chlorination can be provided for an additional fee.
WATER INSPECTIONS - CHEMICAL
Samples are sent to a lab for testing. This inspection includes 7
water tests such as:
Turbidity - measures the clarity of the water.
ph - measures the acid/alkali. Too much acid will corrode pipes
including old lead soder.
Iron - commonly found in well water. It is not a health hazard,
however will create brown staining.
Nitrate - found in fertilizers and can be harmful if above 10.0 mg/l
Nitrite - is a byproduct of nitrate.
Lead - lead poisoning is dangerous to your health.
Hardness - this measures calcium levels. Hard water causes staining
and inability to make lather. |

Ledgedale Natural Area

Adjacent to Ledgedale Recreation Area, this 80-acre
woodland tract is maintained in a natural state with
trails for hiking, bird watching, photography and
public enjoyment of the scenery. Many of the trails
follow old logging roads, since this area was logged
about 1910-1920, prior to PPL ownership. The
observant hiker will notice many different types of
trees, with red maple, black birch and hemlock being
the most common.
The large boulders seen along the hiking trails are
evidence of the prehistoric glaciers that moved
through this area. They were left as the glaciers
receded. Although the rocks appear to penetrate the
ground, they are usually on the surface with only
sand and gravel beneath.
The woods are home to a wide variety of birds and
animals. Some of the major game animals which a
lucky hiker may see include raccoon, red and gray
fox, ruffed grouse, red and gray squirrel,
white-tailed deer and black bear.
Hunting, camping, picnicking, fire-building, ATV's,
snowmobiles and other motorized vehicles are
prohibited at Ledgedale Natural Area. |

Shuman
Point Natural Area

This woodland is one of the last undeveloped areas
around Lake Wallenpaupack. Before the lake was
formed in 1926, parts of Shuman Point were farmed.
Now this 300 acres of woodland is a natural area set
aside by PPL for the public’s enjoyment. The Blue
Trail starts as an old road which at one time was
the main route for transportation to what was
earlier known as Wilsonville Village. The trail
parallels most of the shoreline. The hiker will also
notice a variety of trees and wild flowers
throughout the wooded area. Chestnut, oak, white
pine, red maple and white oak are the common trees.
American chestnut sprouts can be found. Shuman Point
hosts a variety of wildlife. The hiker may encounter
squirrels, turkey, grouse, white tail deer and black
bear. Hunting is NOT permitted. Camping, picnicking,
fire-building, ATV's, snowmobiles and other
motorized vehicles are prohibited. A parking area is
located on Route 590. Adjacent to Shuman Point Area
is the 60-acre Beech House Creek Wildlife Refuge. |
